The Best Roommates I ever had in PB

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Monday, March 30, 2020, In : Pacific Beach Life

After living alone for a couple of years post-college, I've realized that it might be safer for me to live with roommates. The random knocks in the middle of the night were scaring me when I lived in my studio in Pacific Beach (read this post about this story when I lived alone).

The next place I lived at after my solo time in my studio was a 3 bedroom apartment on Pacific Beach Drive. The situation was a girl was looking for 2 new roommates to replace the roommates she was living with. She wa...

Random Knocks in the Middle of the Night in PB

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, In : Pacific Beach Life
I'm going to take you back to a time when I lived alone in a studio that was located on Fanuel Street in Pacific Beach. I was in my mid-twenties and wanted some independence and alone time to clear my head when I'd get home from work so I found the most affordable place I could find and signed a lease. This studio happened to be located behind a 7-11 where a lot of homeless people would gather around.

Now, as a naive young professional, it didn't cross my mind that I would be affected by the ...

Thanksgiving Week in San Diego

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Friday, December 6, 2019,
Thanksgiving week was very eventful this year. We hung out at Stone Brewing World Bistro at Liberty Station (about a 10 minute drive from Pacific Beach) on Thanksgiving Eve. (A day before that, we took the $5 ferry from Broadway Pier to Coronado! Scroll down to see a picture of our view.)

We watched two football games with 25 other people at a large Thanksgiving feast at my cousin's house in University Heights on Thanksgiving Day and had way too much to eat and drink! That's what Thanksgiving ...

Typhoon Saloon, PB Bar & Grill, Surfside Sushi and Moondoggies have all closed

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Friday, March 18, 2016,
What in the world is happening? All of the bars that I've frequently visited during my SDSU years have all closed! Two of the most memorable for me were Typhoon Saloon and Pacific Beach (PB) Bar & Grill and they have both closed within the last year. I actually met my husband at PB Bar & Grill and now that piece of history is gone forever.

Moondoggies closed about a year before Typhoon Saloon and PB & Bar & Grill and that was the first one that really felt close to home.

Most Recent Trip to SeaWorld may be our Last Time seeing a Killer Whale

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Thursday, January 15, 2015, In : San Diego Attractions
After the frenzy about the "Black Fish" movie, many people are boycotting Sea World and trying to make it illegal to hold killer whales in captivity. Being from San Diego, I grew up seeing Shamu as a kid at Sea World San Diego and I am terribly sad that it's going to be something I'll never see again at the park. We learned a lot about these animals, all thanks to Sea World.

Last year, we went to Sea World San Diego and this time we brought our baby son. To see killer whales up close like tha...

Who is Slo Mo?

Posted by Thepacificbeach.com on Friday, October 3, 2014,
Every resident knows of Slow ("Slo") Mo in Pacific Beach. He is that graceful rollerblader who always wears a blue tank or shirt. He skates to classical music out loud and does slow motion. However, not everyone knows that he was a doctor who lived in a North Carolina. He is divorced and has grown kids and now lives simply and does what he loves all day. Check out our facebook to see the full video of his interview: https://facebook.com/thepacificbeach. It is inspiring.

Moondoggies is no more and it feels like an end of an era

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Sunday, March 2, 2014, In : Pub Crawls
I had a lot of memories at Moondoggies. It was one of my go to spots when I was 21 years old and a senior at SDSU. I associate Moondoggies with my college years and the few years after it. Well, it's now closed and new businesses like Duck Dive prosper and take more of the market share. Who can blame them? They have great food and sit really close to the water.

To me, it feels like it's an end to my era. I am no longer that 20 something year old and those memories of Moondoggies only exist in...

Rigoberto's is a great place for 24 hour Mexican food in La Jolla, CA

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Wednesday, September 11, 2013,

While I was staying in La Jolla, I was craving a California burrito at 5am in the morning. You know if you're in San Diego, you must have a California burrito because they don't sell it anywhere else in California. I googled the closest taco shop that's open for 24 hours and found Rigoberto's in La Jolla, CA. I guess there are two but look for the one that's a small taco shop. For $5, the burrito was huge! I was full after eating 75% of it. The hot sauce is super hot. I recommend coming here ...

Labor Day weekend at Typhoon Saloon in Pacific Beach (now CLOSED)

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Sunday, September 8, 2013, In : Pub Crawls
-- Note: Typhoon Saloon is now CLOSED. --

I went to Typhoon Saloon in Pacific Beach for Labor Day weekend with 16 other people. We wanted to do some catching up with our friends so we decided to meet at 7pm there. There was a lot of room for us and the place was quiet enough for us to hear each other without yelling. The clubbing crowd doesn't come until 10pm. A lot of people don't know this but Typhoon Saloon also serves Fred's menu so if you want more TV screens and a more casual eating room...

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Thursday, August 29, 2013,
The first time I moved to Pacific Beach, I was 23 years old. I graduated from SDSU the year prior and finally had the money from a full time job to really go out at the bars and live it up. I went to a lot of happy hours and a lot of late night bars for the next few years. It was really hard to save money when you're going out all the time and the bars were only steps away from my door but who cares?

Back then, I remember that I would run into 30 something year olds and wonder what were they t...

1st year working in an office reminds me of the "freshmen 15" when gaining weight

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, In : Work Life 9-5
During my first year that I had an office job, I gained 15 lbs and I'm pretty confident that I ate the same amount of food as before. The only difference was I sat all day in a chair for 8 hours a day and was stressing while staying in one spot. That's bad for your body.

I became ignorant of my weight gain and just blamed on my dryer for shrinking my clothes. Then, I noticed that my face was getting rounder and my confidence became really low.

When my dad slipped and called me "fat", I realized...

Tourism Etiquette for Pacific Beach from your local resident

Mimosa, Man-mosa and Kid-mosa! All alcoholic

What is a Man-mosa?

Man-mosa is beer mixed with orange juice. So while the ladies are having their Mimosas for brunch with their meals, a man can opt to have a man-mosa. It's not a bad idea!

What is a Kid-mosa?
Kid-mosa was an idea my friend and I came up when we wanted a man...
