Finding a new place to rent can feel like entering a race with unique obstacles. Many newcomers become residents of San Diego every year so the competition can be tough to live in your place of interest and that's no surprise. New Pandemic Year and New Lunar New Year

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Tuesday, February 16, 2021,
We're in our second year of Covid and also officially second lunar new year of Covid as well. Starting Feb 12, 2021, we're in the year of the Ox. All of the lunar new year festivals and fairs in San Diego went virtual to ensure we don't have another spread and you can still only dine outdoors in the patio; no indoor patrons.

As always, it's mellow in San Diego. If you ever get a chance, drive down El Cajon Blvd or University Ave in the City Heights area, which is about 7 - 10 minutes from San...

Random Knocks in the Middle of the Night in PB

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, In : Pacific Beach Life
I'm going to take you back to a time when I lived alone in a studio that was located on Fanuel Street in Pacific Beach. I was in my mid-twenties and wanted some independence and alone time to clear my head when I'd get home from work so I found the most affordable place I could find and signed a lease. This studio happened to be located behind a 7-11 where a lot of homeless people would gather around.

Now, as a naive young professional, it didn't cross my mind that I would be affected by the ...

Most Recent Trip to SeaWorld may be our Last Time seeing a Killer Whale

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Thursday, January 15, 2015, In : SeaWorld San Diego
After the frenzy about the "Black Fish" movie, many people are boycotting Sea World and trying to make it illegal to hold killer whales in captivity. Being from San Diego, I grew up seeing Shamu as a kid at Sea World San Diego and I am terribly sad that it's going to be something I'll never see again at the park. We learned a lot about these animals, all thanks to Sea World.

Last year, we went to Sea World San Diego and this time we brought our baby son. To see killer whales up close like tha...

Moondoggies is no more and it feels like an end of an era

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Sunday, March 2, 2014, In : Pub Crawls
I had a lot of memories at Moondoggies. It was one of my go to spots when I was 21 years old and a senior at SDSU. I associate Moondoggies with my college years and the few years after it. Well, it's now closed and new businesses like Duck Dive prosper and take more of the market share. Who can blame them? They have great food and sit really close to the water.

To me, it feels like it's an end to my era. I am no longer that 20 something year old and those memories of Moondoggies only exist in...

There will always be the 30 something year old crowd in Pacific Beach. We don't want to grow up.

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Thursday, August 29, 2013,
The first time I moved to Pacific Beach, I was 23 years old. I graduated from SDSU the year prior and finally had the money from a full time job to really go out at the bars and live it up. I went to a lot of happy hours and a lot of late night bars for the next few years. It was really hard to save money when you're going out all the time and the bars were only steps away from my door but who cares?

Back then, I remember that I would run into 30 something year olds and wonder what were they t...

California Kebab & Beer Garden in Pacific Beach (CLOSED)

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Sunday, June 3, 2012,
Note: This restaurant is now CLOSED.

We went to the newly opened California Kebab & Beer Garden in Pacific Beach last night and we were so impressed. The very first time I went to the Promenade shopping center was when I was a teenager eating Hawaiian food on the rooftop. Eight years later, this place is now a very cool place to drink and eat kebabs. Our plate of food included sirloin, salmon and shrimp kebabs. We got free tasters before we bought the beers we wanted and enjoyed the view of th...

Just for your loyal visitors - Best Hook Up bars in Pacific Beach (PB)

Posted by ThePacificBeach.com on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, In : Bars
Amazingly, I get a lot of visitors trying to find out what are the best bars to find a hook up in Pacific Beach. Okay, you crazy people. Here they are.

Best Bars on the weekends for a hook up:

Mavericks (formerly where Pacific Beach Bar & Grill was located) - Located centrally near many others bas and restaurants, Mavericks is upbeat, with a full food menu (by a certain time) and opens late. Late in San Diego is until all the bars have to close by a certain time. It feels like a night club in t...
